Background
Independent hirers RM Group Services, a Wolverhampton based business provides hire and sales of construction tool and plant equipment. The Hirefix Sales and Leasing arm offers a comprehensive range of tools and plant as well as telehandlers and other site equipment. April 2008 will see the launch of ToolFix Direct the web based side of the business and the expansion of two further depots in Walsall and Dudley is also proposed for 2008
The Issue
In order to track the whereabouts of its plant and equipment, RM Hire had used a basic software program. "It was one of the old ‘green screen’ systems said Adam Rowland, Commercial Manager at RM Hire. ‘Reports had to be run for several hours and were not customer specific. Also it was not multi depot and because our plans involve expanding to become a multi depot operation we needed to look for an alternative hire management solution."
RM had key criteria which the new rental package needed to meet. They needed a system that would be easy to manage; would cope with both hire and sales; was accurate and stable and would give them the flexibility they needed, as well as having a workshop function. They looked at two hire management systems and chose inspHire Office Edition.
The Solution
“We chose inspHire because we thought the system was easy to use and you didn’t have to be a computer buff to be able to use it. We also wanted to be able to mix the two hire and sales concepts and our opinion was that inspHire had the strongest sales package to its rental system.
The company itself appeared to be an aspirational one and the people very approachable and most importantly it came within budget!”

During implementation and training of the inspHire system the business continued as normal without too much disruption. “The inspHire people had good knowledge and were able to answer our many questions. The training was well done and the literature and help books were an added advantage.” Said Adam.
Third party integration was another key factor for RM when they were sourcing an alternative hire software supplier. Adam went on to say “It was our opinion that other software suppliers were not as amenable to tailored reporting. Because each hire company is unique in the way they want to run their business, the option of having integration to Crystal Reporting gives us so many possibilities. We can identify areas of strength/weakness within the business and we get the information we want when we want it. We can monitor the performance of the company on a day to day basis if we want to, and inspHire will highlight which areas are strong and which areas need more care and attention."
