Background
Lindum Group is a construction company based in Lincoln with offices in Peterborough, Grimsby and Spalding. Celebrating its 50th year in 2006 the group has a turnover of £80 million and employs almost 500 people. Lindum operate via 13 trading divisions covering Construction, Building, Maintenance, Development, House building, Plant Hire, Joinery, Waste, Recycling, Security and Design.
The Issue
In 2001 Lindum’s accounting software supplier was phasing out its current package and replacing it with a product that did not contain a plant hire module. So, Lindum began their search for a replacement plant hire package.
Lindum’s selection criteria were extensive. The software was required to; be tried and tested; have an extensive existing user base; be easy to use; be able to integrate into their accounting system; be able to cope with internal and external hire [ 50 : 50 mix ]; have good product support at the implementation stage and beyond; be able to deal with ALL the sectors within the Plant division which includes operated Plant (JCB’s / Concrete Pump), Haulage business, Workshop and X-Hired Plant and finally having confidence in the people working for the software provider and of course the price.
The Solution
Lindum looked at several products but one product stood out immediately –inspHire Office Edition.

We were particularly impressed with the level of support they were offering during the implementation process. The level of enquires and reports available as standard on insphire was impressive too. We were allocated a project manager to help us through the implementation stage and his knowledge of the product was excellent. With the assistance of inspHire we designed a 3 month implementation plan. The linking of inspHire to our accounts package was also crucial and went relatively smoothly.
In my experience bringing in new systems is always quite fraught but the introduction of inspHire was relatively painless. There were one or two issues to resolve along the way but these were always resolved to our satisfaction and although we bought a package there is a lot of flexibility built into inspHire.
The support we received from the Helpdesk, particularly in the early days, was excellent.
