Industry case studies - Hire software, Rental Software

Jarvie Plant Group

BackgroundRental software for Plant and Equipment

Jarvie Plant was formed in 1960 and became a limited company in 1984. Jarvie Plant Group Ltd has two subsidiaries; Jarvie Plant Ltd supplying plant & accommodation hire  and J P Rentals Ltd, a vehicle hire company. The group operates throughout Central Scotland from seven depots; Grangemouth (Head Office), Glasgow, Cowdenbeath, Edinburgh, Irvine  Paisley and Aberfeldy.

With a commitment to Health and Safety, Quality and Customer Care, Jarvie is dedicated to providing quality plant and service to all of its customers.

The Issue

Historically, Jarvie had used two hire management systems, one written in house and then later a bespoke system.

Unsure, as to whether its in house system would be Millennium compliant Jarvie replaced it with a bespoke system in 1997. As time went on, it became expensive to maintain and was not at all user friendly. In 2002 Jarvie began looking for a Windows compatible solution – their key criteria being that it should be supplied by a reputable company with a track record of supplying hire management software to the industry and a system that was compatible with other software and would allow them to analyse and report extensively on the data they acquired.

The Solution

Jarvie Plant Group selected inspHire.

“We chose inspHire as we saw them as the market leader with a windows compliant product and one that was running on the latest technology. The implementation and training was good - users found the product much easier to use with simple menu systems and we were given a dedicated account / implementation manager who was extremely helpful.

We upgraded from Office Edition to Corporate Edition in 2005 as we had outgrown the original software.  inspHire made the transfer easy and have a product for all sizes of rental business.

Jarvie Plant Group is now fully computerised. When we first transferred to inpsHire, we were still writing hire lines and using inpsHire as a back office product. Now all our paperwork is computer generated and we use it to control all hire and workshop functions.  We are currently looking at using inspHire MobileWorking  as well so that we can eliminate paper completely.

inspHire WebPortal has allowed our customers to have a level of self sufficiency – they can have access to their own hire information on line and we are now also e-mailing many documents to customers to that they have instant information with no delay or items lost in the post.

inspHire has demonstrated that they have an on-going development policy. With their help, this year we will invest and upgrade systems to eliminate paper and improve the access and information on our WebPortal.  With Signature Capture our  customers will be able to log on via the internet so they can easily see what they have on hire, who signed for the goods, and obtain any copies of documents, including delivery notes and invoices, they require from Jarvie Plant Group. “
